CARE Tanzania places women’s economic independence at the heart of its mission. For more than three (3) decades, CARE Tanzania has worked to ensure that women especially rural smallholder farmers gain equitable access to financial services, skills, technologies, and fair, reliable markets. This approach does more than strengthen individual livelihoods; it transforms entire communities by shifting social norms, increasing household income, and building long‑term resilience.
Women's Economic Independence
Women have the ability and freedom to earn, control, and make decisions about their own financial resources
We support women and communities to build sustainable livelihoods through access to financial services, skills development, and market opportunities.
How We Work
Financial Inclusion through VSLA
We facilitate Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA), creating safe and accessible platforms for women to save, access credit, and invest in income-generating activities. These groups build financial resilience, reduce reliance on informal lenders, and strengthen collective agency.
Skills Development & Enterprise Support
We equip women and youth with practical skills in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and value addition. This includes supporting small-scale processing, business management, and improving product quality to meet market standards.
Market Linkages & Value Chains
CARE Tanzania connects producers—especially women and smallholder farmers—to reliable markets. By strengthening value chains, we ensure that communities move beyond subsistence to more profitable and sustainable economic activities.
Partnering with the Private Sector
We actively collaborate with private sector partners to unlock economic opportunities, improve market access, and scale impact. These partnerships bridge the gap between communities and formal markets, ensuring sustainability beyond project cycles.
Currently we are collaborating with
- Kazi Yetu
Through partnerships in the tea value chain, we support women to engage in processing and production, improving product quality and access to markets. - Andre & Rose via E‑Mazao
We leverage digital platforms to connect farmers with inputs, financial services, and markets—reducing barriers and increasing efficiency across the agricultural ecosystem. - Mrembo Naturals
By linking women producers to natural product value chains, we support value addition and create new income streams rooted in local resources. - Viridium Tanzania
Our collaboration promotes access to sustainable energy solutions that support productive use, reduce costs, and enable business growth.
These partnerships increase productivity, expand market opportunities, and empower women to lead resilient, profitable livelihoods.
