About Us

CARE Tanzania is more than an organization; we are a movement of people committed to a world where no one is left behind

For over three decades, CARE Tanzania has stood alongside the most vulnerable, especially women and girls, to defeat poverty, advance equality, and build resilient communities across Tanzania.

Who We Are

CARE Tanzania is a leading international non-governmental organization with over 30 years of transformative work across Tanzania. Established in 1994 and registered under the Non-Governmental Organizations Act No. 24 of 2002 with registration number I-NGO/R1/00869, we are part of CARE International, one of the world’s largest humanitarian and development networks, operating in over 110 countries and reaching more than 170 million people through 1,600 projects globally.

Since our founding, CARE Tanzania has implemented more than 100 projects spanning agriculture, health, education, economic empowerment, climate resilience, and humanitarian response. Every project we design and deliver is grounded in the evidence-based belief that lasting change begins when women and girls are empowered to lead their own futures.

We work with governments, communities, local organizations, and international partners to design solutions that are innovative, context-specific, and built to last long after our direct support ends. Our approach goes beyond service delivery; we work to shift the social norms, policies, and power structures that keep women and girls from reaching their full potential.

Our Mission

  • To save lives and defeat poverty

Our Vision

  • We seek a world of hope and inclusion, where poverty has been overcome and all people live with dignity and security.

Our Focus

  • We put women and girls at the center, because we know we cannot overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities.

When women thrive, families thrive. When families thrive, communities thrive. This is the multiplier effect that drives everything we do.
