For years, members of the three Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) in Ukomola (Mkombozi, Nazareth and Ukombozi) relied on paper records to track their savings and loans. Every meeting meant flipping through exercise books, struggling to verify contributions, and fearing that lost pages could erase crucial financial information.

As their membership grew, so did the challenges. Tracking transactions manually became unsustainable, and members longed for a more efficient way to manage their finances. Then came the turning point—CARE Tanzania, through the SADIFU project, introduced the Chomoka digital platform.
Skepticism turned into excitement as members quickly realized how Chomoka could simplify their work. Now, every transaction—from share purchases to loan disbursements—is securely recorded in real time. Members receive instant SMS updates, ensuring transparency and accountability.

Beyond convenience, Chomoka has transformed how the community engages with financial management. “We feel more in control of our finances,”shares Florah Madete from Mkombozi VSLA. “Everything is digital, clear, and easy to access. It’s empowering.”
The impact extends beyond Ukomola. As word spreads, neighboring VSLA groups are eager to adopt the technology. “We never imagined a simple tool could make such a difference,” Florah adds. “Now, we can focus on growing together rather than struggling with paperwork.”
The Ukomola VSLA’s journey from paper to digital is a testament to the power of innovation in grassroots financial inclusion. What started as a leap of faith has now become a model for transformation—proof that the right tools can empower communities and unlock new possibilities.
