Sakare Tea Factory Launch

December 13th, 2023, marked an extraordinary moment as the doors of innovation swung open at the Sakare Speciality Tea Company factory, graced by the esteemed presence of Hon. Hussein Bashe, Minister of Agriculture in Tanzania. As the ribbon was ceremoniously cut, echoing applause resonated through the corridors, signifying not just an inauguration but a new chapter in the heritage of Tea craftsmanship among smallholder farmers in Sakare.

During the launch, Hon. Hussein Bashe stated these points:

  • The Sakare Factory will be expanded to be a hybrid factory of orthodox and CTC processing lines to accommodate the growing demand from around 1,615 smallholder farmers from 7 wards of the Bungu division, producing tea across 715 hectares.
  • Government commitment to finance the construction of five factories in Tanzania for smallholder tea farmers, facilitating tea processing and auction sales.
  • Valuing Tanzania-made products, with a focus on promoting the “Made in Tanzania” brand visibility for all Tanzanian tea products and beyond.
  • The Government of Tanzania acknowledges and expresses gratitude for the support extended by Bloomberg Philanthropies. Their financial contribution to CARE International in Tanzania for the implementation of the “Her Money, Her Life” project, aimed at empowering smallholder farmers in Sakare, is instrumental in fostering sustainable development.

The government acknowledges the commendable efforts of CARE International in Tanzania and its esteemed partners, including Kazi Yetu, the Tea Board of Tanzania, and the Tanzania Smallholders’ Tea Development Agency, in the successful establishment of the Sakare factory.

Sakare Speciality Tea Factory will be a market for Sakare Tea smallholder farmers to sell their tea. The Sakare factory stands not merely as a symbol of industry but as a testament to Sakare Speciality Tea Company’s dedication to quality, sustainability, and community welfare.
