The Young Women Leadership Program

CARE Tanzania implemented a pilot women’s leadership program spanning 12 months, involving a cohort of 12 participants. This pilot was called the Young Women’s Leadership Program (YWLP). The project focused on empowering young and emerging women leaders from women-led organizations in Tanzania. Its primary goal was to provide these leaders with the skills and knowledge necessary to expand their influence, build meaningful partnerships, and increase their executive presence.

The YWLP pilot yielded significant positive impacts. Through the project, young and emerging women leaders acquired essential leadership skills, increased self-esteem, and gained the confidence to assume leadership roles. The mentorship component of the program was particularly successful, providing participants with invaluable guidance and fostering personal and professional growth.

The follow-up project strongly emphasizes continuity and consistency, representing a natural extension of the YWLP pilot program. It will expand on the original pilot’s impact by providing ongoing support and further opportunities for participants, focusing on empowering young women in leadership roles and promoting gender equality. CARE Tanzania is dedicated to scaling and expanding the program’s reach, building upon the lessons learned from the pilot phase to broaden its impact. Program adjustments will be made to better
cater to evolving participants’ needs, informed by participant feedback and evaluation. The emphasis will be on reaching out to women with limited opportunities and whose voices have yet to be heard despite their strong ambitions to pursue leadership roles.

Goal of the project:

  • The project seeks to address leadership gaps by focusing on underrepresented women, offering them the support needed to mobilize resources and succeed. It will prioritize reaching young women with limited opportunities whose voices have not been heard despite their strong ambitions to pursue leadership roles. By the end of the 12-month program, participants are expected to have gained valuable skills and insights that will enhance their career prospects. The mentorship will not only provide them with industry-specific knowledge but also help them build a strong professional network. Ultimately, the project aims to foster the personal and professional growth of these young women, preparing them for successful futures.

Project Achievements:

  • The project has successfully enrolled 50 young women who are set to embark on a transformative journey over the next 12 months. This project aims to empower these participants through a comprehensive training and mentorship program designed to enhance their skills, boost their confidence, and prepare them for future opportunities.
  • The program has successfully established a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mwanamke Initiatives Foundation, a prominent women’s rights organization. This MoU signifies a formal agreement between the Mwanamke Initiatives Foundation and CARE Tanzania to collaborate on the implementation of the Young Women Leadership Program (YWLP).
