As part of this initiative, CARE Tanzania actively participated in launching the “Pika Kijanja” campaign at TBC Taifa grounds in Dar es Salaam to highlight the impact of the “Go Green” project. This campaign showcased clean energy cooking stoves, developed in collaboration with Tizo Limited, a private sector partner, to demonstrate their effectiveness in reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
The “Go Green” project implemented by CARE Tanzania, funded by the Augustinus Fonden in Denmark and Fred Olsen in Norway, ran from 2017 to 2020 in Same, Hai, and Moshi districts in the Kilimanjaro region. Through this project, women were economically empowered to sell solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, energy-saving cooking stoves, and briquettes. By March 2020, 371 women from 76 Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) collectively sold 28,733 clean energy products, benefiting approximately 143,665 people. These sales generated a net income of TZS 133,214,902 (approximately USD 52,200) and reduced an estimated 8,965.59 tons of CO2 emissions.
Thanks to the sustainable commercial relationships established by CARE Tanzania and its implementing partners (Floresta Tanzania and the Voice of Empowered Women Foundation), women entrepreneurs continue to purchase and sell clean energy products in their communities. To further scale up this success, CARE International in Tanzania seeks supporters and collaborators to enhance the reach of the Go Green project across the country.
Continuing our commitment, CARE Tanzania remains dedicated to supporting the Africa Women Clean Cooking Support Program through ongoing projects. Our focus is on empowering women economically, ensuring access to clean energy solutions, and fostering transformative change for women and girls.
