The Nanenane exhibition is an annual event held in Tanzania to commemorate the founding of Farmers' Day, celebrating achievements in agriculture, livestock, and fisheries sectors. It takes place from August 1st to 8th each year and features displays and demonstrations from various sectors related to Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, including innovations, technologies, and practices aimed at improving productivity and sustainability.

From August 1st to 8th, 2024, CARE Tanzania proudly took part in the 31st International NaneNane Exhibitions at the Nzunguni Grounds in Dodoma. This annual event themed, “Embrace Visionary Leadership for Agricultural Transformation“, was officially opened by H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

At the CARE Tanzania booth, visitors were introduced to a vibrant display of value-added products from our project participants, including tea, cashews, and soybeans. These products reflected not just the hard work of the farmers but also the critical role they play in fostering local economic growth through innovative agricultural value chains. Our participation underscored our commitment to supporting smallholder farmers as they navigate the evolving agricultural landscape.

A key highlight of our exhibition was the demonstration of our integrated approach to sustainable farming. By combining Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) with Farmer Field Business Schools (FFBS), CARE Tanzania has empowered farmers with the tools and knowledge to improve their economic stability, resilience, and productivity. We also presented the National Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) manuals for the cashew and tea sectors, developed in collaboration with key stakeholders, which offer farmers advanced techniques to enhance yields and maintain sustainable practices.

The event attracted numerous dignitaries, including Hon. David Silinde, Deputy Minister of Agriculture; Dr. Hussein Omar, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture; Hon. Ummy Hamis Nderiananga, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliamentary Affairs & Coordination); and several regional commissioners and senior government officials. Their recognition of CARE’s impact in uplifting smallholder farmers and contributing to national agricultural development was deeply appreciated.

Throughout the exhibition, our booth welcomed over 10,500 visitors, who engaged with our project participants and CARE staff, learning about our work and exploring opportunities for collaboration. We are excited about the positive response from the public and government officials alike and look forward to continuing our partnerships to drive impactful change in Tanzania’s agriculture sector.
