Addressing Unmet Needs
With over 50% of Tanzania’s population under 18, there is a critical need to support youth during their transition to adulthood. This project aims to provide the necessary structure and skills to help young people become independent and productive members of their communities.
Prudence Masako, CARE Tanzania Country Director, shares that,
“Agriculture employs 65% of Tanzania’s workforce, yet more than half of the population still lives in multidimensional poverty. Only 1.9% of the population aged 15 and above has attained a university education, leaving most small-scale producers without access to advanced skills. At CARE, we believe project management isn’t just a skill reserved for corporate boardrooms—it’s a powerful tool for small-scale producers, who are the backbone of Tanzania’s economy. This first-of-its-kind partnership with PMI in Tanzania aims to empower small-scale producers—who make up over 65% of the workforce—with essential project management skills. This initiative will bridge the skills gap, drive sustainable growth, and transform Tanzania’s agricultural sector and other sectors, leading to a significant shift in the country’s economic trajectory.”
Dr. Ashley Forsyth, Director, Social Impact Programs at PMIEF shares,
“At PMI we’re committed to training the next generation of project management professionals and entrepreneurs in Africa. In 2023, we empowered 2.7 million youth globally with project management skills, with 85,000 coming from sub-Saharan Africa. Thanks to partnerships like CARE, over the next three years we will impact over 750,000 youth in sub–Saharan Africa, ensuring aspiring leaders have the skills they need to lead and compete in a global society.”
