From Plant to Progress – How Women are Changing the Face of the Tea Value Chain in Tanzania

In 2023, #Tanzania exported USD $30 million of #Tea, with smallholders collectively producing about 40 percent of the country’s green leaf. Tea has traditionally been a male-dominated crop in Tanzania, with women’s role in this downplayed, and a lack of vertical integration within the country has limited Tanzanian farmers’ ability to make this profitable.

But this is changing – and in the Tanga region where CARE Tanzania is implementing the Tea project (Her Money, Her Life project funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies) women are showing the value they can bring to Tanzania’s tea sector.
