CARE Tanzania Shines at the 2024 Annual NGOs Forum in Dodoma

The Annual NGOs Forum (ANGOF) is a key event that brings together non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from various sectors to collaborate, share insights, and discuss strategies for enhancing their contributions to national development and governance.

From September 4 to 6, CARE Tanzania proudly participated in the 2024 Annual NGOs Forum in Dodoma, under the theme, “NGOs as Key Stakeholders: Involve Them in Enhancing Good Governance.” The event brought together various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to showcase their efforts in driving sustainable development, fostering collaboration, and promoting good governance.

For three days, CARE Tanzania staff and project farmers showcased different products produced by VSLA groups within different projects such as Shamba Darasa Imara na Ustadi (SADIFU), Her Money Her Life, Scale Up Farmers Field and Business School (SU-FFBS) and Innovating Cashew Value Chain.

One of the event’s highlights was the visit by Hon. Dr. Doto Mashaka Biteko (MP), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, to CARE Tanzania’s booth. The Country Director, Ms. Prudence Masako, had the opportunity to discuss CARE’s transformative work, emphasizing its alignment with national development goals. She highlighted CARE’s contributions in empowering women, youth, and smallholder farmers through projects in key areas such as:

  • Humanitarian aid
  • Climate justice
  • Health and education
  • Gender equality
  • Youth empowerment
  • Sustainable agriculture

Ms. Masako also reiterated CARE’s support for the government’s “Building a Better Tomorrow” (#BBT) program, showcasing how the organization’s projects are strategically aligned with national priorities.

A particularly moving moment during the visit is when Ms. Safia Madenge, a smallholder farmer from Iringa, shared her personal journey in Soybean value chain to Hon Doto Biteko.

Through CARE, I have learned Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and gained access to better market linkages. Also, my confident has increased boosting my leadership skills.

Her testimony demonstrated the real-life impact of CARE’s work in transforming the lives of rural farmers and Hon. Dr. Biteko, visibly touched by her testimony, praised CARE Tanzania for its significant contributions to advancing national development priorities and fostering the meaningful participation of women in agricultural development.

Throughout the three-day event, participants from CARE’s projects proudly displayed a range of value-added products developed through Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) and Farmer Field and Business School (FFBS) models. Products such as tea, cashews, soybeans, and honey were featured, showcasing how these initiatives are unlocking market potential and creating lasting change in communities.

The 2024 Annual NGOs Forum included a series of plenary sessions, roundtable discussions, and exhibitions. Participants focused on enhancing the sustainability of NGOs, fostering dynamic partnerships, and ensuring the meaningful involvement of civil society in governance and development processes.

CARE Tanzania represented by Barnabas Mtelevu; Senior Project Manager Her Money Her Life participated in various forums including the break-out session “Role of Non-State Actors (NSAs) in Advancing Health Services in Tanzania” organized by the Ministry of Health. The session was attended by many Non-State Actors through formal invitation.  The Deputy Minister, Ministry of Health Hon. Dkt. Godwin Mollel (MP) was the guest of Honor.

Other break-out sessions, roundtable discussions, and plenary sessions included:

  • Training to assistant registrars and NACONGO members
  • Launching of the NGOs Coordination Desks in the Private Sector
  • Project management overview, project proposal writing, donor reporting and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Coorporate social responsibility and Mama Samia legal aid campaign in Mpunguzi, Chang’ombe and Chamwino ikulu.
  • Internal and external funding opportunities for NGOs in Tanzania – Opportunity Expo
  • Policy, legal and Coordination of the NGOs Emerging Opportunities and Challenges
  • NGOs compliance to the principles of transparency, accountability, integrity, and good governance.
  • Technology and Innovation for the growth of the NGOs sector: Opportunities and Challenges.

CARE Tanzania’s participation in the 2024 Annual NGOs Forum underscored its commitment to advancing national development through impactful programs that align with government priorities. By showcasing our work in agriculture, gender equality, and economic empowerment, CARE Tanzania demonstrates the value of NGOs as key stakeholders in fostering good governance and sustainable development.
